Wow, who could have seen a messy public breakup that may impact our tax returns and daily lives through petty policy moves coming, apart from, oh, all of us? As the world watches Donald Trump and Elon Musk volley social media insults back and forth at one another like Zendaya in Challengers—only you just know neither Trump nor Musk has the fast-twitch reactions or lateral movement that make for a great tennis player or love triangle participant—Vivian Jenna Wilson appears to be watching right there along with us. And Wilson, it turns out, has the reflexes and comedic timing to score points.
Wilson, the 21-year-old estranged daughter of Musk who has embraced modeling and absolutely scathing takes on social media since publicly cutting ties with her father, is hesitant to comment on him these days. In late May, speaking with Vanity Fair, she paused for roughly 30 seconds when asked for her take on Musk’s then in-progress public pivot away from politics, murmuring a drawn-out “giiiiiiiiirl” before asking for the next question.
Now, she appears to have taken a page out of Patti LuPone’s “no comment” playbook to acknowledge the current battle of the bros without actually commenting on it. Though the embattled Broadway icon is currently in a precarious position within the Broadway community after her indelicate comments in a recent New Yorker profile, LuPone’s primly dismissive non-answer when asked about her “not a friend” Audra McDonald’s Tony-nominated performance in the current revival of Gypsy became instant gossip fodder.
As New Yorker writer Michael Schulman recounted, after he asked the question, “she stared at me, in silence, for fifteen seconds. Then she turned to the window and sighed, ‘What a beautiful day.’”
Wilson, too, would rather just, oh, appreciate the sunshine than talk about two aging drama queens doing all but pulling out rulers to compare stats and prove who’s the manlier man.
“Such beauty in life,” Wilson posted on her Bluesky account Thursday afternoon around 3:30, which would be shortly after Musk posted that Trump is in the Epstein files, but before he said he was going to take his rocket and go home, so there. “The weather is so lovely today,” Wilson added two minutes later, complete with a sparkle emoji for pizzazz.
She did not share her opinion on McDonald’s work in Gypsy either.
And you know what? It really is a gorgeous day out here.
