On Monday, Carole Middleton, mother of Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, chose a long neutral-colored striped dress to comfortably spend an entire afternoon at Wimbledon, where she sat in the stands of the Royal Box with her husband, Michael. Also present in the same section was Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh in a dark white floral dress with a matching patterned jacket and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester.
Princess Kate, who is in recovery following her 2024 cancer diagnosis, has been seen sparingly during the British social season. In May, she appeared at the Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in Emilia Wickstead, at the Trooping the Colour in an outfit that called to mind Princess Diana, and at the Order of the Garter pageant in what appears to be one of her favorite gowns. She did not attend Royal Ascot, with a royal source telling Vanity Fair that the princess had “to find the right balance as she fully returns to public-facing engagements.”
However, both at the world’s most famous racecourse and at Wimbledon, there was Carole Middleton, managing to shift the spotlight to herself instead of pointing it at the royal absence.
Below, see what the royals wore to Wimbledon as the tennis tournament continued this week:
Carole Middleton’s Beulah London dress that starts at the neck and goes down to the feet offers a chance to relax the outfit characterized by white and caramel stripes. Designed with a belt at the waist, it evinces tailoring work because looking at the photo carefully one notices the lack of the loops present on the original model. The cotton poplin dress has a lightness of its own: we can infer this from the gust of wind that lifts it as Carole Middleton converses with former rugby player Kenny Logan.
